What will happen during the SprintDay?

SprintDay is the first day of the hackathon where teams will collaborate with UI / UX Designers and will begin working on their ideas on site. SprintDay is all about working on the problem statement, brainstorming and prototyping before jumping into solving the problem. We will invite some expert mentors who will conduct a Design Sprint that will help you to understand the problems first, develop your idea and the prototype. Most of the of SprintDay is about understanding the problem and developing prototypes, so please remember to bring your laptops and any other equipment and materials you might need to work. Food and beverages are provided throughout.

What HackDay is all about?

The second and third day is known as the HackDay where you will actually start working on the prototype that you have designed on SprintDay. And at the end of third day you’ll deliver a pitch and demo your hack to a panel of judges.

What the heck is PitchDay?

We are still working on this and figuring out a lot of things about PitchDay but typically the it's for all those best teams who wants to continue their hustle and take their idea to the next level. On pitchDay you will deliver the pitch and show the demo of your final MVP to a panel of judges and win pilot opportunities with VC partners and Accelerators.

Which of the days are mandatory to attend?

SprintDay and HackDay are mandatory for everyone who are selected for UtkalHacks. HackWeeks are generally for those who are local or are nearby to Bhubaneswar or Cuttack. And the PitchDay will be for only the best teams who will be invited to present their hack and win pilot opportunities to continue the hustle.

How much does UtkalHacks cost?

Admissions is completely free. Just bring yourself and your best ideas, and we take care of the rest! That means meals, drinks, snacks, workspace, swag, and WiFi are completely on us.

Can we apply as a team?

Yes! It's always good to have a team because it's not just the hackathon for which you are building a team. Who knows you might end up building the first working model of your startup at UtkalHacks. And it's no kidding, we aim to support our best hacks even after the Hackathon through our post hackathon activities. So, we always encourage to have a team. You can join or create a team once you've started an individual application.

How big are the teams?

Your team should have at least two members but it should not more than four people. You can either apply as a individual or a team. Once you receive your acceptance, you will be sent an email further prompting you on our team formation opportunities.

What do you look for in applicants?

The We believe that anyone and everyone has the power to make a difference. In our application, you get a chance to demonstrate your interests and past projects by sharing anything from your GitHub, LinkedIn, portfolios, or writing samples. We don't require prior hackathon experience because we want you to show us what makes you, YOU!

Are we allowed to build on past projects?

You cannot work, copy, or iterate on past projects. Using your own APIs or third-party APIs is allowed, as long as the project is completely new.

Do you offer travel reimbursement?

Haven't finalised yet! It completely depends on the availability of sponsorship. We're trying to be as inclusive as we can and to encourage a diverse range of students to join. That being said, we'd love to support you by offering travel reimbursements if there is enough sponsorship. Travel reimbursements will be assessed separately from your application and will be provided on a case by case basis.

What should I bring?
